About Prof. Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler

Prof. Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler is an internationally renowned authority in the field of international arbitration and dispute resolution. She is a Partner at Lévy Kaufmann-Kohler where she has a worldwide practice as an arbitrator in investment and commercial disputes A Professor Emerita at the University of Geneva Law School and visiting professor in several top universities, Prof. Kaufmann-Kohler’s career is distinguished by her exceptional contributions to both the academic and practical aspects of international dispute resolution.

Prof. Kaufmann-Kohler has played a pivotal role in the establishment of several key institutions in the arbitration field. She is the founder and former director of the Geneva LLM in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS), a globally recognized program that trains the next generation of leaders in international dispute settlement. She continues to teach at the MIDS and elsewhere, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to advancing education and professional standards in dispute resolution.

Her leadership extends beyond academia. Prof. Kaufmann-Kohler is a founder of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy (FIAA) and serves as the President of its Advisory Board. She is also a past President and now Honorary President of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), and Honorary President of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA), an institution she previously chaired.

In addition, Prof. Kaufmann-Kohler has been an influential figure in the development of international arbitration law as a long-standing member of the Swiss delegation to UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law). She has authored reports and other contributions that have shaped the practice and regulation of international arbitration globally.
